The Slow-Cooked Sentence

Creating in the chaos

Rachael Conlin Levy

Hello there. I haven’t been around much since school ended and I miss being here, but there’s little time to spare for writing when all the kids are home. I’ve picked up my knitting needles again. Rows of purled stitches are giving me the sense of satisfaction I usually seek from sentence crafting. Creation out of chaos, right? Anyway, let’s keep in touch. Tell me how your summer’s going.

Fabulous! Especially the trip to Seattle to visit all of you!

  2. I’m away from home and experiencing some hot summer days. It’s nice. I’ve been spending time in a swimming pool and it is glorious.

Happy creating. Enjoy your knitting and I hope we see a few sentences, when you are ready. I’m okay now, but I know I’ll be missing those sentences soon. Take care, Denise

We loved having you visit and began missing you the minute you left.

Denise, it’s nice to hear what you’re up to. My kids and I head into hot weather later this month. I hope to bank the heat in my bones so I can pull it out when the damp, dreary winter returns.

Grad parties, more driving around than I could have possibly imagined (Amazing Girl is taking a studio photography class at a community college 30 miles away and JUST TODAY passed her road test!), brushing up my piano practice to help AG prepare for choir auditions, watering the garden, working my way up to my first canning project.

Am supposed to be thinking about/preparing for the next phase of life, the one that begins after we drop her off at school in August, but time for that has been mighty scarce.

Love that orange yarn you’re using — looks to me like wonderful creative refreshment, a good way to prepare your mind for autumn.

Anno, there will be time to breathe and think come fall. (I hope!) In the meantime, good luck canning. I’d love to hear about your results.

Jonathan just left again for a few days to be with his mom. He took Solomon with him so I hope they have fun! Last week Jonathan took the boys to Cub Scout camp for 3 nights! Amelia and I had a really good time by ourselves. I’ll miss your writing but I know your having fun with those beautiful kids of yours. Love, Kyndale

  8. Rachael says:

Kyndale, summer camp triggers all sorts of memories for me. What opportunities you’re giving them, both to those who go and those who stay behind with you. Enjoy the marshmallows!
